Preparing for embarkation day is an exciting part of the cruise experience. Whether you’re taking a shuttle or driving yourself, here’s what you can expect:
Arrival at the Port
Shuttle Drop-off: If you take a shuttle, you’ll typically be dropped off close to the cruise port entrance. This is convenient and eliminates the need to find parking.
Driving In: If you’re driving, you’ll need to park in the designated lot, which is often a short walk or shuttle ride to the terminal. (note: fee per day)
Bag Check and Tipping
Once at the port, take your luggage to a porter. These staff members ensure your bags are delivered to your cabin. It’s customary to tip the porter a few dollars per bag for their assistance.
Keep your essentials in a backpack, along with any drinks you’re bringing onboard (like a 12-pack of soda, a bottle of wine).
Entering the Terminal
Head to the terminal assigned for your boarding time. If you’re in a suite or a Key program holder, there’s usually a dedicated spot for priority boarding. These passengers often have the earliest boarding slots.
Ensure you have your passport and cruise pass ready. It’s a good idea to screenshot your cruise pass or bring a printed copy in case of internet issues.
Check-in and Security
After signing in, you’ll go through a security screening area. Be prepared to present your cruise pass multiple times during this process.
Boarding and Muster Station
Once onboard, your first task should be to head to your muster station. This safety briefing is mandatory, and the ship cannot leave port until all passengers have completed it.
Exploring Before Your Cabin Opens
Cabin Access: Staterooms are typically ready around 1:00 PM. Until then, explore the ship or enjoy lunch at venues like Windjammer.
Important Tip: Your SeaPass card, which serves as your room key and onboard charge card, will be waiting for you at your cabin.
Luggage Delivery
Checked luggage usually arrives at your cabin between 3:30 and 5:30 PM. To make the most of your day, pack a bathing suit or other essentials in your carry-on bag.
By following these tips, you’ll start your cruise off smoothly and be ready to enjoy all the excitement your ship has to offer!
